Information Concerning Area Dams

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers owns and operates thirteen dams on Willamette River tributaries for flood reduction, hydropower, recreation and other purposes. Eight of these dams are upstream of Eugene including:
  • Blue River
  • Cottage Grove
  • Cougar
  • Dexter
  • Dorena
  • Fall Creek
  • Hills Creek
  • Lookout Point

Beginning in 2010 and over several years, the Corps will modify their operations for maintenance, including repairing many spillway gates. The Corps remains committed to operating their dams for optimal flood management purposes during this time while operating with reduced storage capacity in several of its reservoirs. The Corps anticipates releasing more water than usual between storm events over a longer period than in a typical year. While this situation isn’t expected to increase the chance of a large flood event in our community, flooding is a real risk every year.
