Monthly Volunteer Events

Sladden Park volunteers
Eugene Outdoors will host at least one monthly work party throughout our park system. No experience is necessary at these enriching family-friendly events. We will provide snacks, tools, instruction and a good time. Locations will range from natural areas to neighborhood and community parks to community gardens. Each event will be unique, but you can expect to give back, get dirty, have fun, learn something new, and connect with awesome people. Check out our calendar to the right for upcoming events, and we will see you there!

Regular recurring work parties also take place seasonally in Hendricks Park (forest and Rhododendron garden), Owen Rose Garden and the Native Plant Nursery. Join these dedicated volunteers once, or come back week after week to lend a hand. See the calendar of events for details.

Monthly Events at a Glance

See the calendar to the right for event details and contact information.

April 10 – Arbor Day
It’s a “Mulchapalooza” caring for nearly 400 small native trees along the West Bank bike path. Get some exercise, have some fun, and help small trees become large trees as we celebrate our remarkable urban forest.

April 16 - Awbrey Park
Dedicate the new connector bridge and celebrate the beautiful spring wildflowers with guided walks, treasure hunts and more.

May 3 - Hendricks Park
Mother’s Day at Hendricks is one of the busiest days of the year. Help get this world-class Rhododendron Garden prepared for its close-ups with Mom.

June 18 - Sladden Park
Join the Friends of Sladden Park in sprucing up this lovely spot along the riverfront bike path and stay for the after-party.

July 14 - Tugman Park
We invite you to take care of the park and then play funky lawn games. We'll bring the games, you bring the funk.

July 16 - Churchill Youth Sports Park
Get ready for a great big Party in the Park on July 19. Help get things in tip-top shape the weekend before, then ditch your weeknight routine and come party in the park instead.

August 6 - Bethel Community Park
Another Party in the Park coming right up, this time in Bethel on August 9. Lend a hand getting the place party ready. Don’t forget to come back and enjoy the festivities.

August 20 - Amazon Running Trail
Strike a pose during a free yoga session for runners led by Mudra Yoga, and then use those limbered up muscles to spread mulch over the trail surface.

September 24 - Alton Baker Dog Park
All paws needed to help make sure this remains one of Eugene’s best places to enjoy time off-leash. Do a little work and learn about local animal rescue groups.

October 1 - Great Willamette Clean-up
Get dirty for good at the Great Willamette Clean-up: 187 trash-bagging miles of rampant do-gooderism by people who believe in clean water.

November 12 - Petersen Park
Celebrate National Family Volunteer Day with a park clean up and stay and play some family friendly activities in the barn.

December 3 - Whilamut Natural Area
Help give native plants a fighting chance! Cut back invasive plants and we'll share more about the habitat you are fighting for.
