Oregon Sick Time

Effective January 1, 2016, all employers in Oregon with 10 or more employees (6 or more in Portland) must provide their employees with paid and protected sick time. While the biggest change for the City of Eugene is that City Temporary Employees are now eligible for paid sick time, certain provisions of the bill require minor changes even for Regular Employees.

Regular Employees use their normal City-provided Sick Leave, Personal Time and/or Protected Leave (such as FMLA/OFLA) when coding OST-Qualifying time off work, but the law allows additional reasons for Regular Employees to use their leave accruals and in certain cases may “front” the payment from their leave banks.
