Options
You may have several courses of action available if you are a victim of discrimination, including:
Resource and Referrals
Our office may be able to assist you in exploring options and to offer support as you pursue them. Please read over the information provided on our website and decide if you want to lodge a formal discrimination complaint (based on an actual Code violation).
File a Human Rights Discrimination Complaint or a Hate / Bias Incident Report
Mediation/Facilitated Conversations
Mediation is an opportunity to discuss differences face-to-face. It is often better to work out problems with the people involved rather than start a long legal process. These discussions can take place either informally or with the assistance of trained mediators.
Referral
Some problems can be resolved through other agencies, including:
- State of Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI)
BOLI can assist in resolving complaints that involve employment, housing or public accommodation. The phone number for BOLI in Eugene is 541-686-7623. - Fair Housing Council of Oregon
These trained specialists investigate complaints involving housing. The hotline number for the Fair Housing council is 800-424-3247 Ext. 2 or 800-424-3247 (TDD). - The Court System
In some cases you may decide to go to court with a civil complaint. To take this step, you will need to hire a private attorney.
