Ways we are greening disposal of buildings and equipment are:
When it came time to renew the flooring backstage at our performing art center, we went back to basics. Instead of putting down tile or vinyl, we stained and polished the existing concrete floor. It’s beautiful, easy to care for, and durable. Plus there won’t be anything going into to landfill when it wears out—we’ll just polish it again!
We reused an entire building when we repurposed instead of building new to house our police station. We also reused quite a few cabinets and over 7000 square feet of carpet tile, saving both landfill space and dollars.
Rather than send a whole building to the dump, we had a former child care center deconstructed so that most of the material could be repurposed in other buildings.
