The rates for commercial food waste collection are set at 20% below commercial garbage rates. The idea is that businesses will be able to reduce their trash container and then pay for food waste at the discounted rate – after this they are likely to pay a minimal cost, break even or save money. On April 15, 2019, The City of Eugene's commercial food waste collection program shifted to a food only model based in part on changes to accepted materials that were made by commercial composting facilities in our area.
