Taney Street Traffic Calming

Taney Street Traffic Calming

Taney Street neighbors will see the construction of traffic calming speed cushions in the summer of 2015. Following two community meetings on April 2 and 15, 2015 at Malabon Elementary School, neighbors voted by mail-in ballot to support traffic calming. The installation of speed cushions is intended to reduce the speed of traffic on Taney Street in response to neighborhood and Malabon School concern about speeding traffic and safety along the street.

A series of eleven traffic calming speed cushions will be placed on Taney Street between Barger Drive and Marshall Avenue. Before and after speed studies will be conducted on Taney Street to determine the effect of the traffic calming.

Community Engagement

Ballots were mailed to the owners and residents of 98 properties between Barger Drive and Marshall Avenue with direct access to Taney Street, and 200 feet up side-streets. To move forward with the traffic calming proposal, support needed to be demonstrated by at least 60% of respondents, representing at least 50% of the surveyed properties. There were 37 votes in favor and 14 votes opposed (72.5% in support) representing 51 of the 98 properties (a 52% response rate).
