Art in Public Places
Application timeline: ongoing
Cultural Services continuously seeks new opportunities for public art installations throughout Eugene, including murals, sculptures, wayfinding displays and other mediums as needed. Many of these projects are funded by the Percent for Art Program, which allocates 1% of the budget for capital construction projects to foster public art within the City. Artist calls for these opportunities are posted as they become available.
Cultural Currents is an ongoing collaboration that strengthens multicultural hubs, programming and experiences in Eugene. Funded by the Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Cultural Currents supports diverse approaches to arts and storytelling to promote a greater sense of belonging for our community. Through this initiative we invite artists, artist collectives and arts organizations to create temporary public art installations that advance representation and narratives for groups that have historically been excluded, misrepresented and/or marginalized in the City.
The Mayor’s Art Show (MAS) is part of a larger celebration of contemporary visual art, artists and the City’s public spaces. MAS celebrates local artists, art production and champions the visual arts. MAS recognizes the accomplishments of artists who are committed to enriching their communities through visual arts. The City of Eugene invites artists, 18 and over, who live or work in the City of Eugene to submit one piece of work for the juried Mayor’s Art Show. The exhibition is held virtually and will be on display in downtown Eugene. Established, emerging and student artists of Eugene are encouraged to apply.
Be a part of the City of Eugene Cultural Services annual National Dance Week. Oregon’s only city-wide National Dance Celebration. This vibrant celebration for dance lovers of all ages includes free workshops, performances and virtual content. Businesses and organizations are invited to host dance related workshops and activities around town throughout the week.
This mural program through the City of Eugene Cultural Services provides opportunities for local artists to create public murals by connecting artists to wall owners and City of Eugene Departments and serving as a liaison for the process. Urban Canvas is looking for both artists and wall owners who want to participate.
Cultural Services, City of Eugene Windowfront Exhibitions seeks artists and artist teams to help enliven Downtown Eugene through the placement of artwork and installations in vacant storefront windows. All empty spaces have great potential to be transformed by artists and innovation. The goal of Windowfront Exhibitions is to provide professional opportunities for artists and creatives to present their work, support and increase the presence of art in downtown public spaces, celebrate diversity, engage community, provide a platform for historically under-served communities and encourage positive interactive activities downtown.
