Individual Volunteer Opportunities

What’s your volunteer super power? Tell us what you’re good at and we will look for meaningful ways you can contribute. Send a note to and let’s talk.

Good with people? Consider joining the Outreach Team and help staff information booths at community events and share your passion for parks. We will provide training, materials and key messages.

Have knowledge to share? Become a docent and help guide visitors through their park experience. Answer questions, give directions, share park history, and point out interesting landmarks and wildlife. Docents are required to complete training and submit to a background check.

Like to tinker? Repair, sharpen and tune-up the valuable fleet of hand tools and small equipment volunteers rely on.

Fascinated by citizen science? Satisfy your inner ecologist and help collect important data to care for and steward our parks and wildlife habitat. We have need for tree inventory, plant and animal counts, monitoring, and invasive species control test plots. We will provide you with guidance and the reporting tools necessary to complete your research.

Want to help on your own time? If you prefer to keep things low-key but want to make the most of your time enjoying parks, we can support you there too. You can help with things like picking up trash and debris while your kids play, sweeping walks, pulling invasive weeds along your hike, or meditating to the raking of leaves. We will provide you the resources you need.

Got a green thumb? If you’re an experienced master gardener who loves to teach, an event organizer with time on your hands, or you just love to weed eat – you’re in luck! Share your skills to enrich Eugene’s Community Gardens by helping put on educational workshops, or focus on keeping the grass down around the fences.

Dream of a career in public service? If you are a student interested in internship opportunities with Parks and Open Space, please let us know.
