To the Coffin Races Community, Past Present and Future:
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we must inform you that the coffin is being lowered into the ground - Coffin Races is cancelled for 2020.
Due to the ongoing public health landscape, budgetary constraints, and the limits on gatherings, we simply could not create the type of event that the community has come to expect from Coffin Races for this year.
While sad, we maintain a fiery hope that the Coffin Races will make a spectacular return from the dead sometime in the not-so-distant future. May this funeral not be one of sad commiseration and pity, but instead one of joyous and triumphant remembrance - where a skeletal marching band plays jams through the night and our beloved community of werewolves, vampires, ghouls, mummies and goblins eulogizes the glory of our event in the highest of spirits.
As an offering of hope, we’re happy to share our newest logo we had planned to roll out for this year’s event (created by the incredible Rachel Adler). Hair-raisingly lovely, if we do say so ourselves.
Any updates about a future event will be posted on the City of Eugene Cultural Services social media pages and on our website. Until we are able to unite again, barreling down the butte in homemade contraptions of varying degrees of craftsmanship, please stay well and continue to find ways to nourish your creative souls.
Our team looks forward to the event’s return in the hopefully-not-too-distant-future, when we can commit the loving time and creative energy to craft this uniquely Eugene event alongside our community once again. Lastly, to our amazing partners and volunteers, we thank and salute you! None of this could have happened without your heart-felt companionship.
Yours in Life, Death and whatever lies in between,
