What is the Project?
The City of Eugene's Transportation System Plan calls for the extension of the West Bank Path up to Wilkes Drive from it's current terminus near Hunsaker Lane. This new path will link the popular Riverbank Path to the new Santa Clara Community Park, located just north of Wilkes Drive, which is starting construction soon. The park will include a combination of passive recreation facilities as well as ball fields. The park also connects to Madison Middle School.
The plan is to install a 12' wide concrete shared use path adjacent to or across property currently owned by School District 4J and by gravel quarry operators. The alignment of the path is yet to be determined and will likely be informed by opportunities for land acquisition. As such, it is not currently known if the West Bank Path extension will terminate at an existing street (such as Admiral Street or Zane Lane) or will provide a continuous shared use path all the way to the Santa Clara Community Park.
Is there funding available?
Yes, a grant was acquired through the Oregon Department of Transportation to make the shared use path connection. The funding, called Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality, will be used to provide an active transportation connection to an emerging community park and recreational area by expanding the regional Riverbank Path System.
What is the Timeline?
Planning and community outreach is currently underway and will continue through 2023. Design and environmental studies will be completed in 2024 with construction likely in 2025. Timelines are subject to change.
