Lottery
Eugene Rec Lottery
Eugene Rec has implemented a lottery system to make signing up for some of our programs more accessible and equitable. With a first-come, first-served system, spots in our most popular camps and classes are gone within minutes, requiring patrons to have a speedy internet connection and a flexible schedule.
Our lottery system is new and we’re rolling it out slowly so we can ensure things run smoothly and that the system is indeed accessible for all. As we continue to make tweaks and improvements, watch for the lottery system to expand.
Our goal is to create a system that streamlines the registration process, provides adequate time for patrons to consider and sign up for the lottery and provide everyone with an equal and fair opportunity to participate in our programs.
Winter-Spring Lottery
The lottery will open on Nov. 28 and remain open for six (6) days, allowing patrons to enter their name into any number of our lottery programs. The lottery will close at 11:59 p.m. Dec. 3 – except for Adaptive listings, which will close at 11:59 p.m. Dec. 17.
- How does the lottery work?
-
The lottery will open on Nov. 28 and remain open for six (6) days, allowing patrons to enter their name into any number of our lottery programs.
The lottery will close at 11:59 p.m. Dec. 3 – except for Adaptive listings, which will close at 11:59 p.m. Dec. 17. At that time, the system will randomly select participants from those who have signed up for the lottery.
It is important to know that signing up for the lottery DOES NOT ensure a spot in the program or class.
Patrons who were selected will begin to receive email notifications Dec. 4 with a link leading them to register and pay for their spot. Both registration and payment must be completed by 11:59 p.m. Dec. 10, or the spot will be forfeited. Winning entries are nontransferable and must be used by the individual who originally entered the lottery.
Those who were not randomly selected will also receive an email notification. Any open spots that were not filled during the lottery timeline will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis on registration day, which begins at 9 a.m. Dec. 12.
- Which programs are included in the lottery for the 2024 Winter-Spring term?
-
A complete listing of the lottery programs is below and can be found online starting Nov. 28.

- The link I received in my email is expired or doesn’t work, what should I do?
-
The links our system sends expire after 24 hours, so it is important to pay close attention to your email account during the week of Dec. 4 – including your spam folder. We will send multiple emails to your account throughout the week, but you can also register by calling or visiting a community center or pool.
All of our hours can be found on our Rec Contact page.
- Do I have to sign up for the lottery online?
-
No. Once the lottery opens, patrons will have six (6) days to sign up for the lottery ensuring plenty of time to call or visit a center.
All of our hours can be found on our Rec Contact page.
- Do I have a better chance of being enrolled if I sign up on the first day of the lottery?
-
No. Everyone who signs up for the lottery has the same chance of being picked for enrollment. You do not need to rush and sign up as soon as the lottery opens; however, do not wait until the last minute in case you have any questions or if errors pop up. Once the lottery is closed, no late entries will be accepted.
- Will siblings be allowed to join the lottery together?
-
Yes. During the lottery enrollment process, patrons will be given the option to indicate they would like to register up to two (2) siblings for some programs. Both participants must be on the same account and have at least one similar parent or guardian who is financially responsible for payment.
The participants will be issued a single entry into the lottery system, giving them the same chance as single-user entrants.
- I want to attend a Family activity. Can I sign my entire family up for the lottery?
-
Yes. For some Family activities, patrons will be given the opportunity to indicate how many family members they would like to register. All of the participants must be on the same account and have at least one individual who is financially responsible for payment.
The family will be issued a single entry into the lottery system, giving them the same chance as other families and single-user entrants.
- Do I need to pay when signing up for the lottery?
-
There is no cost to sign up for a lottery program. Participants who are selected will be notified by email to visit their CivicRec account to register and pay for the program(s).
Both registration and payment must be completed by 11:59 p.m. Dec. 10, or the spot will be forfeited.
- If I’m not selected during the lottery, can I still get in the class?
-
Possibly. Patrons who won the lottery will have a few days to register and pay for their spots. If a patrons fails to complete the process or changes their mind, that spot will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis during registration day, which begins at 9 a.m. Dec. 12.
Patrons will also have the opportunity to sign up for waitlists on registration, in case a spot opens up in the future.
