Native Plant Appreciation Week

Native plants provide important habitat to birds, insects and other wildlife while playing key roles in diverse ecological communities. Join City staff in supporting native plant populations around the city. Projects include habitat restoration, native plant propagation and invasive species management.
Wake Up with Native Plants
Tuesday, April 23, 8:30 — 10 a.m.
Skinner Butte north side
Enjoy complimentary coffee and a self-guided tour of the vibrant spring wildflower community on the north side of Skinner Butte. Parks staff will be present to answer questions and provide direction. Meet at the summit parking area.

Cultivate with Friends
Tuesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 25

Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah Native Plant Nursery 
Join the Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah's nursery volunteers and help prepare for our annual plant sale and open house on May 4.

Garden with Community at Hendricks Park
Thursday, April 25, 1 — 4 p.m. 
Hendricks Park Native Plant Garden
Learn about gardening with native plants and put that knowledge into immediate practice through volunteerism. Meet at the Wilkins Picnic Shelter at Hendricks Park.

Science and Conservation with WREN
Friday, April 26, 11:30 a.m. — 12:30 p.m.

Help document native plants as part of a bio-blitz. Volunteers will be using I-Naturalist to photograph and tally as many species as possible as part of a larger communal citizen-science effort. 

Propagate at Alton Baker

Alton Baker Native Plant Nursery
Volunteer with us to support the nursery in growing native plants used in habitat restoration projects throughout the City of Eugene. 

Habitat Restoration with McKenzie River Trust
Saturday, April 27, 9:30 a.m. — Noon
Confluence of McKenzie and Willamette Rivers
Join McKenzie River Trust for the Great Scot's Broom Pull of 2019! Protect native plant communities at Green Island. Sign up online at www.mckenzieriver.org.

Native Plant Garden Tour and Celebration
Sunday, April 28, 1  — 3 p.m.
Hendricks Park Native Plant Garden 
Finish out the week with a celebration at the Hendricks Park Native Plant Garden with snacks and drinks provided. Join local herbalist and Whole Earth Nature School’s co-founder Anna Bradley for a deeper look into native ethnobotanical and medicinal plant use in the garden. Meet at the Wilkins Picnic Shelter at Hendricks Park.

These events are family-friendly. No experience required. Tools, gloves and snacks provided.
