Windfall Reading: Live Online
Tuesday, March 16, 2021
Join Lane Literary Guild and Eugene Public Library for a livestream of the Windfall Reading Series, a monthly gathering highlighting local and regional writers. This month, writers Amber Flame and Mike van Mantgem read and take questions online. Watch live or watch the recording later.
Amber Flame is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, activist, and educator. Her work has been widely published, including in her poetry collections “Ordinary Cruelty” and “apocrifa” (forthcoming). Flame has been honored twice as a Pushcart Prize nominee and many times with residencies. Her writing “explores spirituality and sexuality, cross-woven with themes of grief and loss, motherhood and magic, and the interstitial joy in it all.” She serves as Program Director of Hedgebrook, works as a writing instructor, and offers programming for currently and formerly incarcerated women and youth through The IF Project.
Mike van Mantgem is an editor to the book trade working with independent publishers and commercial houses including W. W. Norton and Hachette. His fiction has appeared everywhere from literary magazines to NPR. Van Mantgem will read from his recently completed novel, “The Advance-Man.” Set in the farm country of eastern Iowa, it tells the tale of "a smooth-talking confidence man who gets sidetracked by love. " He describes it as “infused with humor, romance, and a touch of larceny -- like Paper Moon or The Music Man updated for the modern era.”
