Workshop: Writing and Rewriting
Tuesday, March 28, 2023
Dante Zúñiga-West leads a workshop about the skills of rewriting.
Join Dante Zúñiga-West and Willamette Writers for a workshop on "Writing and Rewriting." This event will be held in person at the Downtown Library. To join by Zoom instead, register in advance here.
Says Zúñiga-West, "Good writing is rewriting. While it’s romantic to think the first draft of a writer’s work can be a perfect rendition, purely sourced from a fresh imaginative state, this simply isn’t the case. Good writing is rewriting because effective storytelling requires an acute attention to detail. This session will explore simple methods and tools of the trade that help a writer hone and revise newly written work. We will unravel elements of wordplay, style, and economy of language as we pursue the craft of revision. "
Dante Zúñiga-West is a storyteller who lives in the coastal mountain range of Oregon. He is author of the novel "Rumble Young Man Rumble," founder of the Oregon-based writing collective The Stonecutters Union, and serves as Head of School at the Wellsprings Friends School. His writing is frequently published in alternative newspapers, lifestyle magazines and adventure journals. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Cal Arts, and a BA in Creative Writing from The Evergreen State College.
The Eugene chapter of Willamette Writers holds a workshop or presentation at the Downtown Library on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. from September through May, except for December.
