Wednesday, March 1, 2023

Enjoy works by local artists on display at the Downtown Library.

Black and White AND Blues: Photography by Linda Devenow - Magazines and Newspapers Room, 2nd floor, through April

See a show titled "Black and White AND Blues"  by the local artist Linda Devenow on display in the Magazines and Newspapers Room on the Downtown Library's second floor.

Linda Devenow was born in Detroit, Michigan and fell in love with the look and feel of the forests and lakes of the upper part of the Lower Peninsula. She moved to Los Angeles after college graduation and started her career in the entertainment industry. Her passion for photography lead to her being hired as the exclusive photographer for all Walt Disney TV Animation employee events. From there she expanded her business to include family portraiture and professional head shots. She moved to Eugene, Oregon in 2002, which was reminiscent of the spiritually of Michigan’s terrain.

Her portfolio covers landscape, portraiture, and nature images. In 2018, she started experimenting with black and white infrared photography and became obsessed with capturing the scene with her infrared converted digital camera. Initially, she worked at refining technical skills, and post-processing effects. Her latest focus is catching the emotion of the scene, and eliciting color from the infrared images.

Suddenly Sleepy - Children's Center, 1st floor, through March

Enjoy colorful art from the Platinum Award winning children's book "Little Big Bear" by local creators Andre Royal and Andre Royal Jr.  This fun story teaches children about the importance of healthy sleep habits through the tale of a bear who falls asleep while playing a game of hide and seek.

Andre Royal is the founder of Suddenly Sleepy, a nonprofit advocating for the importance of quality sleep. Each year in March, in conjunction with the time change, the organization hosts a 5K race at Alton Baker Park to raise awareness and support resources for sleep hygiene as a wellness and quality of life / human rights issue.
