[ARCHIVED] Firefighters Provide "Trees for Troops"

Eugene Springfield firefighters with military personnel

In true holiday spirit, off-duty firefighters from the Eugene Springfield Fire Department’s Station 2 volunteered their time and efforts last week to provide trees to local military families. The firefighters cut, bailed and loaded 55 trees during Friday’s snow storm. These trees were donated by a local tree farm owner, delivered to the Springfield Armory and distributed to military families over the weekend.
This is the second year that this event has taken place, and it was again a huge success. Eugene International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 851 is working with the Springfield Armory to continue providing trees to local military families who might not be able to get a tree for the holidays this year without this help.
For more information about the “Trees for Troops” event, contact the Eugene IAFF Local 851 Union office at 541-344-4557 or Deputy Chief of Shift Operations Randy DeWitt at 541-682-7147.
