January 16, 2014
At 5:35 p.m., multiple people called to report a man, later identified as Philip Yan, age 23, being disorderly in the West University area. He spoke of blowing things up and shooting while holding an unknown object inside a paper bag in his hand. He attempted to enter a woman’s home and stole a cell phone from a man in the area before smashing it on the ground. The cell phone owner chased Yan to South Eugene High School, where patrons of the YMCA helped him pin Yan on the ground until police arrived. Yan continued his behavior and resisted arrest. He was transported by medics to the hospital due to his behavior. He was cited in lieu of custody for Disorderly Conduct, Menacing, Resisting Arrest and Criminal Mischief.

Early this morning, officers responded to the Motel 66 in regards to a disorderly subject, Joshua John Derrick, age 24, tearing-up the room. While en-route, officers received information that Derrick had a warrant for his arrest. When officers arrived, Derrick initially opened the door, but when officers asked to come inside, he attempted to close it, then fled to the bathroom and locked himself inside. One of the officers was able to persuade Derrick to come out, but when they made a move to place handcuffs on him, he did not comply. Four officers and a deputy struggled with Derrick as he kicked and attempted to grab equipment off the deputy’s belt. A taser was eventually used to take Derrick into custody, and he was transported to the hospital for evaluation prior to being lodged at the jail for Criminal Mischief II, Theft II Warrants, and Resisting Arrest.

Officers responded to the 2600 block of Ross Lane regarding a dispute. The first officer to arrive at the scene approached and made contact with the suspect, Susanne Julia Harrelson, age 40, and was informed by one of the involved subjects that Harrelson had a gun. Harrelson denied having a gun, but her behavior made the officer suspicious, and she was ordered to put her hands up. Harrelson at first complied, but then dropped her hands to her waist and started reaching under her coat. The officer closed the distance between them and continued to give orders, as bystanders watched nearby. She then complied, and she was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

An officer observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Highway 99 and Roosevelt Boulevard. He followed the vehicle to the 3200 block of Corally Lane, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle then attempted to drive away, but turned northbound in the cul-de-sac of Corally Lane. The vehicle pulled into the driveway of a resident and began to rev the engine as to attempt to reverse and flee the area. The officer quickly pinned the vehicle. Other officers arrived on scene and the driver of the vehicle, Christopher Luke Cherrier, age 26, was taken into custody for Unauthorized Use of Vehicle, Possession of Burglary tools, and Possession of a stolen vehicle.

An officer was on his way to Junction City when he stopped at the Chevron for a soda. The inside-clerk informed the officer of a possible drug deal in-progress taking place in a truck parked behind the store. When the officer went to investigate, the truck attempted to leave but the officer initiated a traffic stop. It was discovered that the truck, a new 2014 F-250 diesel, was stolen from Lithia in Roseburg, and meth and a large sum of money were found inside. Officers were dispatched to Craftsman Way regarding a possible robbery that involved a gun. The suspects left the scene and traveled northbound on Coburg Road in a green Ford F150 truck, where they were spotted near the eastbound lane of Beltline highway. Additional officers responded and the truck was stopped. All four occupants were taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. After the situation dissipated, a very in-depth investigation ensued.

Background: Erik Paul Olson, age 37, had his cell phone stolen from him a few weeks ago and he received information that it was at a resident’s home on Craftsman Way. Sarah Dawn Hodge, age 34, dressed up in black, put on a black baklava, and went to the location with the three other subjects in the Ford truck. Once at the location, the four subjects created commotion in front of the home by revving the engine of the truck and spinning-out to get the attention of the occupants inside the home. The homeowner and his friends exited the house into the front yard and were confronted by the four subjects exiting the vehicle. The homeowner’s friend threw a punch at one of the subjects and was then confronted by Hodge, who threw a punch, pushed him up against a fence and squeezed his neck. Hodge then saw the victim come out of the home with a semi-automatic rifle, ran over to him and grabbed it. Officers found the four subjects a short time later with the loaded rifle in the backseat of the Ford and they were taken into custody. Arrested was Sarah Dawn Hodge, age 34, on charges of Robbery in the Third Degree, and Assault in the Fourth Degree. Erik Paul Olson, age 37, was cited in lieu of custody for Assault in the Fourth Degree.
