City of Eugene Recreation invites high school students to the Job Skills Jam to be held from 3:15-5 p.m., on Thursday, April 10, at Echo Hollow Pool, 1655 Echo Hollow Rd.
At the Jobs Skills Jam, students will learn about the many opportunities for summer volunteers in Recreation. Eugene Recreation needs high-school-age volunteers to assist in summer camps, aquatics, outdoor programs and other recreation activities. By volunteering in their area of interest teens can gain experience, skills, and connections that could help them compete successfully for an entry-level job in the future.
At the Jobs Skills Jam, representatives from Recreation programs will available to provide information about volunteer opportunities, including:
• River House Outdoor Program ?volunteers are needed who have solid skills in outdoor recreation, including rafting, kayaking, sailing, skiing, hiking, and challenge course facilitation.
• Aquatics Programs ?Amazon Pool, and at Echo Hollow and Sheldon Pools and Fitness Centers, volunteers are needed to help with special events and to assist instructors in the learn-to-swim programs.
• Teen Court ?Teens age 12-17 serve as jurors, case presenters, defendant advisors, court clerks and bailiffs, and Spanish language interpreters. Volunteers attend hearings and recommend consequences for first-time juvenile offenders, and help their peers accept responsibility for crimes, using the concept of restorative justice.
• Recreation Classes and Summer Camps? at Peterson Barn and Amazon Community Centers, volunteers are needed to help in child care programs, summer camps, field trips and special events, working with individuals of ages ranging from 2 ½ to adult.
Also at the Volunteer Opportunity Fair you can get assistance with writing a resume, filling out job applications, interview tips, etc. And, there will be free pizza, pens, Frisbees, and beach balls!
