The Eugene Police Crime Prevention Unit is receiving information about a new internet scam where the online entity claims to be a company with the name “IT Solutions.” The company contacts the victim and then offers to clean the victim’s computer files in return for a large sum of money that is to be sent to Singapore in the form of check.
Criminals are continually crafting new scams geared toward separating you from your savings. They do this by tricking you into handing over your cash, personal I.D., checking account numbers, and credit card information any way they can. If someone asks you for your cash, credit card numbers or other personal information-especially if you don’t know them well-the safest move is to refuse their request and check with the police. A list provided on EPD’s website (http://www.eugene-or.gov/DocumentCenter/View/11128) covers some of the most common scams we’ve seen in our area, but new ones, like the one above, are popping-up all the time.
