Public Works Day is Thursday, May 15, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for children and grown-ups to see what Eugene Public Works is all about. The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Public Works Roosevelt Yard, 1820 Roosevelt Boulevard.

More than 1,100 local schoolchildren have signed up for the event, which features equipment, displays and booths that offer hands-on opportunities to learn about Public Works services such as the Eugene Airport, stormwater and wastewater management, road design and repair, park construction and maintenance, traffic operations, and much more.

The local event also ties into National Public Works Week. Read a proclamation by Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber.

To avoid the crush of school kids, early afternoon drop-ins are recommended for community members to bring their children to the event or attend as adults and have a chance to meet many of the people who provide Public Works services in our community.
