Summer unofficially begins at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 16, when the City of Eugene’s Amazon pool opens for summer recreational swims. Amazon pool is a favorite summer site annually drawing more than 150,000 visits from June through September. All three City pools will offer a FREE Summer Kick-off Recreational Swim on Friday, June 20. Amazon Pool is expected to draw more than 1,500 visitors that day.
Amazon Pool is located at 2600 Hilyard St. and includes a 50-meter, eight-lane pool with an accessibility ramp, two 1-meter diving boards, a 3-meter diving board, a 5-meter diving platform, a shallow, multipurpose pool, a 112-foot water slide, water play features, a 15-person hot tub, and a bath house with three family changing rooms. During heavy use times, such as recreational swims, more than 25 lifeguards will be on duty to ensure safety and fun for all.
The City’s two other pools are open year-round. Echo Hollow Pool and Fitness Center, 1655 Echo Hollow Rd., has an indoor and outdoor pool, and Sheldon Pool and Fitness Center, 2443 Willakenzie Rd., has one indoor pool. The free swim on June 20 at Echo Hollow Pool will be from 1:10-3:40 p.m. and at Sheldon pool from 1:40-3:40 p.m. Both of these pools offer lap swimming, and recreation swims, swim lessons, water fitness, and competitive swimming, as well as a full fitness center.
