More than 100 swimmers, age 13-18, will have the experience of a lifetime on Sunday, Sept. 21, when they meet and are coached by Olympic medalists Ian Crocker, Caitlin Leverenz, Dana Vollmer, and Andy Grant.

The local swimmers, who are members of Team Eugene Aquatics, will attend a Mutual of Omaha Breakout! Swim Clinic at Amazon Pool. The swimmers will hear inspiring messages from the Olympians and then get in the water with them for demonstration and instruction on swim strokes and techniques. And, some of the participants will get a chance to race against the Olympians.

Amazon Pool was built to the specifications required for competitive swimming and water polo. These events attract swim meets and special events such as the Breakout! Swim Clinic, which draws visitors to the Eugene area who provide a boost to the local economy.

The Mutual of Omaha Breakout! Swim Clinic is a unique experience developed by Olympic gold medalist Josh Davis and Mutual of Omaha to inspire and motivate a new generation of swim stars. As an official sponsor of USA Swimming, Mutual of Omaha supports the sport.

Team Eugene Aquatics is a year-round competitive swim team offering instruction, training, and competition to children and young adults of all ages and abilities. It is a non-profit organization financed and supported by its members. Team Eugene Aquatics is one of 14 local swimming and water polo clubs that practice regularly at Sheldon, Echo Hollow and Amazon Pools.

Ian Crocker won a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Games right out of high school. He is a four-time Olympic medalist who won gold, silver and bronze at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. He set the world record for the 100m fly in the 2003 World Championships and repeated as world champion in the 100m fly in 2004, breaking his own world record.

Dana Whitney Volmer won gold at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens as a member of the winning U.S. 4x200-meter relay that set the world record for the event. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, she again broke her American record and set a new world record in the 100m qualifying heat. She went on to set a new world record – breaking her own time – in the 100m butterfly final.

Andy Grant was a member of the 2007 USA Swimming team that competed in the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. There, he won one gold and two silver medals and set a Games record anchoring the 4x100 medley relay.

Caitlin Lavernenz specialized in the breaststroke and medley events. As a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team, she won the bronze medal for the individual medley events. She is currently the American Record Holder in the 400y individual medley and is training for her second Olympics in Rio, Brazil.
