[ARCHIVED] Mayor to Deliver 2015 State of the City Address

Mayor Kitty Piercy will deliver her 2015 State of the City Address Wednesday, January 7, 2014, at 5:30 p.m., in the lobby of the Hult Center for the Performing Arts. Mayor Piercy will highlight key accomplishments of the City of Eugene in 2014 and outline goals for the City for the coming year. The program will include entertainment by El Super Combo – a jazz combo from Lane Community College.

The event is free and open to the public. In response to the ongoing need for food assistance in our community, attendees are encouraged to provide donations of non-perishable goods for FOOD for Lane County, to be accepted at the door.

Each year the Mayor presents one or more community awards recognizing individuals and organizations whose work in 2014 has furthered the Mayor and City Council’s goals. This will include the announcement of the annual winner of the Bold Steps sustainable business award. Videos about the three finalists can be viewed on the City’s website at www.eugene-or.gov/boldsteps. Awards are also given to recognize outstanding City of Eugene employees and teams. In addition, this year’s event will include the administration of oaths of office for four city councilors and two EWEB commissioners.

Mayor Piercy’s community award will be presented this year to the Regional Prosperity Economic Development Summit Team for their work in gathering broad community input on regional economic development needs and initiatives that needed to advance in order to meet our prosperity goals. This work resulted in the Regional Prosperity Economic Plan.

The Mayor will also recognize the exemplary work of the following City of Eugene employee groups: Eugene Springfield Fire Merger Team; Neighborhoods USA Conference Team; WJ Skatepark + Urban Plaza Team.

Along with the awards, Mayor Piercy will administer the oaths of office to following Eugene City Councilors: Alan Zelenka, Ward 3; George A. Poling, Ward 4; Mike Clark, Ward 5; and Greg Evans, Ward 6; and the following Eugene Water & Electric Board Commissioners: John H. Brown, Wards 4 and 5; John Simpson, At-large.

The event is wheelchair accessible and will be interpreted for the hearing-impaired.
