October 22, at approximately 7:09 p.m., police responded to the 3400 block of Kinsrow Ave. for a possible DUII driver. A police officer located the suspect vehicle parked alongside an apartment and observed it hit another vehicle as it backed out from where it was parked, before turning eastbound onto MLK Jr. Blvd., where it was observed violating traffic laws. The officer initiated a traffic stop and contacted the suspect, Zachery William Macklin, age 23, of Eugene. After further investigation, Macklin was arrested for DUII, Hit and Run – Property Damage, and Reckless Driving. He was transported to the Lane County Jail. Case Number 15-18108
October 22, at approximately 9:22 p.m., police responded to the 600 block of Monroe St. for a burglary in progress at a realty office. When police arrived, they observed a broken window at the location and an open front door. The police officer observed the suspect, James Earl Vanderslice, age 34, of Eugene, moving across the building and told him to come out. When Vanderslice did come out, police attempted to detain him and he was uncooperative with the officers. He was eventually taken into custody and arrested for Reckless Endangering, Burglary in the Second Degree, and Possession of Methamphetamine. Vanderslice was transported to the Lane County Jail.
On October 22 at 12:04 a.m., a 40-year-old woman, no address, was sitting with a group of people at the corner of West Broadway and Olive Street. The victim left her belongings on the ground with the group of people, and got up to use the rest room. When she returned, her belongings were gone, and police received information that the suspect Allea Michelle James, age 20, was observed walking away, holding her belongings. When the victim approached James and attempted to retrieve her belongings, James refused and is reported to have grabbed the victim`s hand and bit it, grabbed her hair, and pulled her to the ground. The victim hit her head on the curb, and while on the ground, James is reported to have punched her in the face multiple times, grabbed her shoulder and bit her bicep. Officers conducted an area search for James and located her in front of 99 West Broadway. She was arrested and charged with Assault in the Fourth Degree. 15-18055
On October 22 at 4:48 p.m. officers were dispatched to 2750 Roosevelt Blvd for a report of a dispute with one of the involved being armed with a handgun. The armed subject had put the handgun away and the other involved was walking west on Roosevelt Blvd. with a female. The 34-year-old male victim reported a man, later identified as Joshua Joseph Jones, age 33, of Eugene, and a female were yelling at each other in the breezeway in front of his business. They were asked not to argue at the location and Jones became verbally hostile to him. Police received information that the victim had asked Jones to leave, but Jones continued to yell. The victim then went to get his friend and they saw Jones and the woman subsequently drinking beer on his property. The victim confronted Jones about not drinking alcohol on his property, then Jones jumped up and began coming toward him aggressively. When Jones got close, the victim displayed a holstered firearm. However Jones continued to aggress the victim, and raised his fists. The victim walked backward, then drew his gun. The female swung at him with a walking cane and he blocked it. The victim reported he continued to back out into the parking lot and that Jones then grabbed the female and threw her to the ground. Jones and the female left west on Roosevelt Blvd. The victim cleared his handgun and left it on the tailgate as he knew police were enroute. Jones returned armed with a large rock. A passing motorist, who is a security guard, pulled in the parking lot as it appeared help was needed. Jones was challenging the security guard to fight, and the security guard told him to put the rock down. Jones put the rock down when officers arrived. Jones was arrested on warrants, Harassment, Disorderly Conduct, and Criminal Trespass . 1518097
Public Indecency Arrest - A resident of an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Ferry Street reported a male sexually gratifying himself near the exterior stairwell at the apartment building at around 11:50 p.m. on October 20. There were subsequent calls regarding a man looking into a woman’s window. The male had fled and officers began to look in the area for a man matching the description provided by the victims. They located four males in what appeared to be a dispute at the intersection of E. 15th Avenue and Mill. The group pointed out one man, later identified as Elijah Weber, age 21, of Cottage Grove. They reported they had chased Weber after a friend called them to report an unknown man knocking on her roommate’s window. The males had been nearby and quickly arrived. They observed Weber near a staircase and Weber immediately fled, with the males chasing him. They lost sight of him near Little’s Market, 544 E. 13th Avenue. They spotted him again near E. 13th and Mill Street and approached him. He again attempted to run, and they grabbed his sweatshirt, but he slipped out of it. They managed to prevent him from fleeing until officers arrived. Weber was arrested for Public Indecency. 15-18000
Robbery 3 at Walmart - At 11:30 a.m. on October 20, Walmart called EPD to report a loss prevention officer fighting with a shoplifter. Upon arrival, the subject had escaped. 4550 W. 11th Avenue. The 27-year-old male loss prevention officer reported he had contacted the suspect, Michael Patrick Bertak, age 59, after he watched him select items and then exit the store without paying. Bertak pulled away when the loss prevention grabbed his arms, then rode off on a bike. A Eugene Police officer located Bertak at the bike path by W. 11th Avenue and Oakpatch Road. Bertak was arrested on warrants and for Robbery in the Third Degree. 15-17967Man Arrested for Trespass at LTD - A Eugene Police officer was dispatched at 6:43 p.m. on October 20, after Lane Transit District security called to report a trespasser in custody. LTD reported that Gregory Douglas Campbell, age 50, was trespassed in 2008 from all LTD property. On October 20, they advised he was trespassed and needed to leave. Security located Campbell under one of the benches at an LTD bus stop. He was detained in handcuffs until police arrived. The officer walked Campbell to his patrol vehicle and while Campbell was being checked prior to being placed in the vehicle, Campbell deliberately stomped on the officers foot and tried to hold the officer’s foot down. He was taken to jail and lodged on charges of Harassment, Interfering with Public Transportation, and Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree. 15-17992Reckless Endangering and DUII Called in by School Employees - On October 20 at 3:36 p.m., an officer was dispatched to 2550 Portland Street for reports of an intoxicated subject. A female entered the location, a charter school, to pick up a child and smelled like alcohol. She had two juveniles in her vehicle. Employees observed this and called 9-1-1. The officer observed the vehicle westbound on W. 6th Avenue and performed a traffic stop. Andrea Eve Petley, age 50, of Eugene, was arrested for DUII and Reckless Endangering. The juveniles were picked up by another adult and taken home. 15-17979
October 19, at approximately 3:07 a.m., police responded to the Hirons Drug Store on E. 18th Avenue for a possible burglary in progress. When police arrived, they entered the business after observing a broken glass door, and located the suspect, Adam Michael Kotlaba, age 26, of Eugene. Kotlaba was arrested for Burglary in the Second Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, and transported to the Lane County Jail. Case Number 15-17878
October 18, at approximately 5:27 a.m., police responded to the area of West 18th and Washington Street for a subject who was being detained by a male subject after he was observed entering into multiple vehicles. When police arrived, they contacted the suspect, Kelvin Alexander Harris, age 20, and arrested him for Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Hydrocodone, and Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree. He was transported to the Lane County Jail. Case Number 15-17837.
October 16, at approximately 8:50 p.m., police responded to E. 7th Avenue regarding three male victims who had been peppered spray. When police arrived, they received information that the victims were in the area of the W. Park Blocks when they were approached by another group of subjects, who yelled at them, and one of the subjects subsequently punched the 18-year-old victim in the face. The three victims were then pepper sprayed by an unknown person from the group. A short time later, police located the described suspect, Bradley Lewis Sharp, age 21, of Springfield, who punched the victim, on the 100 block of W. Broadway. Police contacted the suspect, and arrested him for Assault in the Third Degree and transported him to the Lane County Jail. Case Number 15-17761
October 14, at approximately 4:20 p.m., police responded to the Dairy Queen, 734 Hwy 99 N. for information regarding a subject who refused to leave the business. When police arrived, they received information that the suspect, Aleksander Curtis Smith, age 35, of Eugene, was told multiple times to leave after displaying belligerent behavior and urinating on the floor near a booth where customers were seated. Police contacted Smith, and arrested him for Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree, Urinate/Defecate, and a warrant. Smith was transported to the Lane County Jail on the charges. October 14, at approximately 10:17 a.m., police responded to the Bruns Market, 849 W. 6th Avenue, regarding information that a suspect had stolen items from the store. When police arrived, they found the suspect being detained by an employee of the market and received information that the suspect, Sharla Dawn Shull, age 40, of Forest Grove, struck the employee after the employee contacted her regarding the stolen items. Police contacted Shull and arrested her for Robbery in the Third Degree. She was transported to the Lane County Jail. Case Number 15-17604
October 9, at approximately 3:33 a.m., police responded to information regarding a subject who had entered the home of a resident on the 800 block of W. 24th Avenue, and caused damage to a door at the residence. When police arrived, they contacted the suspect, Michael Shane Helgerson, age 22, of Eugene, and arrested him for Criminal Trespass in the First Degree and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree.
October 4, at approximately 2:57 a.m., police responded to 60 E. 11th Avenue for a subject who had sprayed graffiti on another person’s van, and the suspect, Craig Jordan Hovis, age 28, of Eugene, was being restrained by the victim. When police arrived they contacted the involved subjects and arrested Hovis for Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree and Harassment. Case Number 15-16991.
October 2, at approximately 2:13 a.m., police responded to the Wayward Lamb bar at 150 W. Broadway for a disorderly subject. Police located the a person matching the description and received information that the suspect Michael Jerome Green, age 44, of Eugene, was behaving erratically, yelled at people in front of the bar, removed his clothes, and punched an employee in the back after being told several times to leave. Police contacted Green a short distance from the bar and arrested him for Harassment – Simple Assault, Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree and Open Container on an Unlicensed Premises, which was found on Green at the time of arrest.
