[ARCHIVED] EPD welcomes three new officers

Eugene Police Department is proud to announce the swearing-in today of three new police officers.

The new group ranges in age from 24 to 28, with the average age being 27. Of our new officers, one has served in the military, and one has been a reserve police officer with another agency. One of the three has earned a college degree. Their prior work experience is the private security, loss prevention and the Transportation Security Agency (TSA).

The process is thorough to become a Eugene Police officer. To become hired, an officer will have gone through a physical abilities test, written test, interview, intensive background, psychological examination and physical examination. Once hired, Eugene Police recruits go through nine weeks of pre-academy training, and then 16 weeks of Basic Police academy training at Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. After their DPSST training, they undergo an additional 16 weeks of field training before being evaluated for solo status.

Eugene Police is anticipating an open hiring process for police officers at the beginning of 2016.
