[ARCHIVED] Eugene launches new improved website January 11, 2016

The City of Eugene’s website will have a new look starting next week. The updated site is scheduled to launch on January 11, 2016. The updated site will have the same web address, www.eugene-or.gov. The update is not expected to interrupt any of the City’s website services.

The City’s most recent website was launched in 2012 and the update is part of the contract agreement with the website vendor, Civic Plus. The goals of the update are to improve the accessibility, usability and mobility of the site.

The site has a new look and feel that was created to be fresh and welcoming, easy to navigate, and clearly identifiable as Eugene. While the look of the website will be new, the navigation will remain the same. Key updates to the site include:

  • The use of responsive design which allows the website to automatically size itself to fit the screen being used – whether it is a full computer screen, a tablet, or a smartphone. The site will work and look much better on smartphones, tablets, and other devices.
  • Increased accessibility for all users.
  • A new page address system – instead of using numbers, webpage addresses will use the page name, making it easier for people to find pages on the site. (The new system is designed to work with previous website addresses, but some bookmarks may need to be updated)

Last year, the City’s website received over 1.3 million visits, making it one of the most important ways we communicate and interact with our community.
