[ARCHIVED] Five New Eugene Police Officers to Graduate from Training

Eugene Police Department is proud to announce that five of the department’s new officers will graduate from the Oregon Department of Safety Standards and Training Basic Police Academy today, February 19, 2016.

The new group ranges in age from 21 to 35, with the average age being 28. Of our new officers, two have served in the military, three have earned college degrees and two are officers from other police agencies (called a lateral hire). Their work experience is varied, but includes employment in the trades, armed security, and recent college graduates.

Eugene Police recruits go through nine weeks of pre-academy training, and then 16 weeks of Basic Police academy training at Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. After their DPSST training, they undergo an additional 16 weeks of field training before being evaluated for solo status.

It’s the career choice of a lifetime!
