[ARCHIVED] The dog (Olive), which ran away during its owner's arrest, has been found

Eugene Animal Services has confirmed that the dog, Olive, has been found and will be reunited with her owner. A member of the public took time to look for Olive, located her and gained her trust.

On April 13 at 2 a.m., a woman’s dog slipped its collar during her arrest and ran away in the Centennial Loop area. Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the dog, Olive.

Olive is about 15 pounds and has black fur with brown highlights on its paws and face. Attached is a photo that is not the dog, but similar in appearance. The dog was last spotted around EWEB. If anyone finds her, they are asked to please call the Eugene Police non-emergency line at 541.682.51111.

On April 13 at about 1:25, an officer was patrolling in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Centennial and spotted a 1990s Honda Civic pull into the parking lot of the Cooler Tavern, then saw the driver, 25-year-old Cassandra Joy Okonski, get out and walk up to the front door and try to open it, but it was closed. A 26-year-old male passenger, Dylan Thomas Denney, and a 26-year-old female passenger, Chloe Elizabeth Lyon, also got out, grabbing their property from the car. The officer pulled up and began a conversation with Denney, while Okonski and Lyon walked away. Okonski was leading a small dog. Dispatch advised the officer the car was stolen and the officer radioed more officers to come look for Okonski and Lyon, who had walked away. Denney was taken into custody.
A short time later Okonski and Lyon were seen getting into a Honda Accord in the parking lot of Kowloon’s, 2222 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., with a driver, Jody Brian Potter, age 29, who had unrelated warrants. Officers detained them. Okonski was driving while suspended, had a warrant and was taken into custody. She was later charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Possession of Burglar Tools as she had shaved keys in her possession.

While an officer was transferring Okonski`s dog, Olive, from his vehicle to another, the dog slipped out of its collar, which was loose and too large for it, and ran away. EPD dedicated nine officers to searching for the dog for about two hours, then some officers continued to search as calls for service allowed. The dog was spotted twice, however it was skittish and immediately ran away from officers. An officer walked with Okonski for more than an hour, looking for and calling the dog, but they were unable to locate it. Today, Eugene Animal Services is patrolling the area it was last seen.
