[ARCHIVED] 15th Annual "We Are Bethel" Celebration Held June 4

We Are Bethel, the free annual neighborhood celebration, takes place from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 4 at the Petersen Barn Community Center on 870 Berntzen Road. Celebrate Bethel and West Eugene at this neighborhood carnival where the theme is "Once Upon a Time: A Cow's Tail." Explore folklore, fairytales and origin stories with more than 40 community booths, local food and live music.

The festivities include carnival games, an inflatable obstacle course, giant slide and a challenge course hosted by Healthy Moves. There will be interactive ambiance in the form of a water wall, a FortunOmatic, giant ring toss, marble maze, giant rocking horse and a giant chess board, to name a few.

The event will also host an art show (youth & adult), which is open to community submissions. All art mediums, poetry and short stories will be accepted. To submit art, drop it off at Petersen Barn by May 30 with name and contact info. For questions contact Tanya.r.thornton@ci.eugene.or.us. Prize winners will be contacted the week following We Are Bethel.

New activities this year include electric car demos by Willamette High School students and an appearance by the River Road Park Imagination Art Bus, a studio on wheels that brings art to kids who otherwise might not enjoy a chance to use quality art supplies. Learn more about the Art Bus here.

The Bethel Fit 5K run hosted by the Bethel Education Foundation starts at noon, followed by a youth half-mile run. Runners will start and finish at Petersen Barn.

Oliver Redig, Recreation Program Assistant at the Petersen Barn Community Center said, "The We Are Bethel celebration is an opportunity for us all to play in the sunshine and grow as a community."
