After years of misuse and illegal activity, Public Works Maintenance has closed off a dead-end road in southwest Eugene. Earlier this year crews placed a barrier and a gate on Pitchford Avenue, just west of the intersection with Westec Drive. This street runs on the northern edge of the Avago Technology campus.
For the last several years people have camped illegally on the road, leaving garbage and debris in the right of way and the neighboring private property. Public Works Maintenance determined it was in the best interest of public health, safety and welfare to close the street to traffic and issued an Administrative Order to install the barrier and gate.
This section of Pitchford Avenue will remain closed to vehicles until the area is further developed or the road is extended to make it a through street. Access for pedestrian and bicycle use is still available.
