[ARCHIVED] Police and Fire Respond to Suspicious Fires

Last night, while patrol was handling the stabbing incident downtown, for which John Brian Carter, age 43, was located and arrested for Assault in the Second Degree, as well as other disputes, Eugene Springfield Fire was responding to a series of grass fires.

An officer was dispatched at 10:54 p.m., on August 1 to the Owen Rose Garden area, where there was a fire nearby. ESF was able to put the fire out. There had been another fire on August 1 at 10:01 in the 1300 block of W. 1st Avenue. There were multiple small fires reported in the area. One was behind Battery Pro, Tyree Oil and another to the east along the railroad tracks. (Case 1612773).

This was followed by a car fire on August 2 at 12:35 a.m., 260 W. 6th Avenue (Case 16-12775). Based on locations and time frame, EPD and ESF are investigating any potential relationship between these fires.
