[ARCHIVED] Teen Charged in North Eugene High School Incident

UPDATE:
Yesterday, September 13, a teen male was arrested for perpetrating this hoax. He has been charged with two counts of Disorderly Conduct in the First Degree.

Details: At 2:59 p.m., on September 13, the adult who originally received the threat about a student at North Eugene High School, received another one. This time, the School Resource Team was able to track down the source of the text message. It was the student himself who had been “threatened.” After investigating, officers found that the teen used an application that sends text messages from a randomly-assigned phone number that is provided by the application. On Monday, as well as Tuesday, the number had returned to an IP address out of the United Kingdom.

North Eugene High School Lock Down Has Been Lifted
North Eugene High School was put on lockdown at 7:47 a.m. today after a parent received a text from what appeared to be from an adult, with a threat towards a student at North Eugene High School.
Eugene Police School Resource Team and Patrol responded. Yujin Gakuen Japanese Immersion Elementary School and Corridor Elementary Schools were placed on lock out, due to their proximity.

North Eugene High School also moved to lock out protocols after a time. The schools were reopened at 1:30 p.m. today. After an investigation, it was determined the message came from outside the area and appears to be a hoax.
Lock Down is a response when the danger may be inside the school or closer, a more direct threat to the school. The school is secured with classrooms locked, lights out and students moved to places of security inside the building.
A Lock Out is when the perceived danger is outside of the school. The exterior is secured, no one is allowed in or out, but school activities continue as planned inside.
