[ARCHIVED] Volunteer with Youth

Starting in January 2017, Eugene Public Library will offer a number of new, free activities for children, families, and teens. These events are being added to the calendar as part of an overall expansion of services supported by levy funding approved by Eugene voters. These fun, educational activities will also provide new volunteer opportunities for community members.

Youth event volunteers support Library staff by helping to set up the room, greet participants, assist staff and participants during the activity, and help clean up. While each event involves some specific needs, in general, volunteers need to: be 21 or older; have some experience with the relevant age group; find it easy to connect with a wide variety of people; be flexible, patient, and welcoming. Volunteers attend a one-time orientation session and receive ongoing support and supervision from Library staff.

The Library is currently accepting applications for volunteers at these events:

STEAM STORYTIME Mondays, volunteer shift 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., Downtown Library

Stories and activities for young children and their grown-ups, with a theme of learning and discovery through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM).

KIDS LEGOS Wednesdays, volunteer shift 3:45 – 5:15 p.m., Downtown Library

Children and their grown-ups explore, play, and build with the Library’s LEGO collection.

PAJAMA STORYTIME Tuesdays, volunteer shift 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., Downtown Library

Stories, songs, and rhymes for families with young children for whom evening is more convenient.

FAMILY FUN Sundays through May, volunteer shift 12:30 - 2:30 p.m., Downtown Library

A different activity to share each week, including arts, science, nature, games, and live performances.

FAMILY MUSIC TIME Saturdays, volunteer shift 9:45 – 11:00 a.m., Downtown Library

Live music and sing-alongs with professional performers and educators. A delightful alternative to Saturday morning TV cartoons.

TEEN BOARD GAMES 2nd Friday of each month, volunteer shift 3:45 – 5:45 p.m., at Bethel Branch and Sheldon Branch

One volunteer needed at each branch to host and facilitate this drop-in time for teens. Set a welcoming tone, interact, and play games.

For more information or to apply, contact Eugene Public Library Volunteer Coordinator Amy Hartsfield at or 541-682-8335, or download and submit a volunteer application.
