[ARCHIVED] The City of Eugene Works to Make Park Blocks Welcome, Safe for All

Starting today, the Eugene Police Department will have additional police presence downtown and particularly in the Park Blocks with the objective of encouraging a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. We will take specific steps to ensure that everyone can feel welcome and safe, including the vulnerable members of our community. We are particularly concerned with the welfare of Eugene's youth who are living on the street. We strive to seize every opportunity to help those who are willing to accept the help. And we will take enforcement action with those who knowingly violate the law.

The additional presence of police is a short term effort as the City and the downtown community build on place-making activities that will continue to grow a sense of vitality and safety.
