With the intent of increasing safety, the speed limit on parts of River Road starts today. City of Eugene Public Works crews installed the new speed limit signs today.
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) recently studied the speeds on River Road, between Maxwell Road and Holeman Avenue, and with the concurrence of the City and Lane County, issued a speed order to change the speed limit from 40 to 35 miles per hour (mph).
The City requested the speed change earlier this year after hearing safety concerns from neighbors and performing an investigation of the current speeds and conditions along the corridor.
The new lower speed is aligned with the City’s Vision Zero Ordinance, which says that any loss of life or significant injury on Eugene’s transportation system is unacceptable.
