The 2017 State of the City event previously scheduled for tonight has been postponed due to the current ice-snow emergency.

The event has been rescheduled to take place at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 9 in the lobby of the Hult Center. “We want to make sure Eugeneans stay safe in this weather, and with the ice-snow emergency in effect it is better for people to stay off the roads if possible. I look forward to the State of the City event on Monday,” says Mayor-elect Lucy Vinis.

The agenda for the event will remain the same. Mayor-elect Vinis will deliver her State of the City speech after taking her oath of office, highlighting lessons learned as she prepared to become Mayor and updating Eugeneans on the issues she prioritized in her campaign and how she plans to work on them. Entertainment will include musical selections by the Gerry Rempel Quintet.

The program will include administration of the oaths of office for Mayor-elect Vinis, several City Councilors, and three EWEB Board members, as well as a video highlighting the year’s accomplishments, and recognition of outgoing City Councilor George Brown and Mayor Kitty Piercy. As her first act as mayor, Mayor-elect Vinis will announce the winner of the 2016 Bold Steps Award. Mayor-elect Vinis will also have a special presentation followed by her first State of the City Address.

The event is free, open to the public and wheelchair accessible and will be interpreted for the hearing-impaired.
