Mayor Piercy Hands the Gavel to Mayor Lucy Vinis

The 2017 State of the City program included: Vinis and new Ward 1 City Councilor Emily Semple taking their oaths of office; the swearing in of three Eugene Water and Electric Board commissioners; presentations of appreciation to Mayor Piercy and outgoing Councilor George Brown; a video highlighting City of Eugene accomplishments of 2016; and musical selections by the Gerry Rempel Quintet.

Following her oath of office, in her first official act as Mayor, Vinis presented the 2016 Bold Steps Award for sustainable business to Pivot Architecture.

And the culmination of the night was Mayor Vinis’ State of the City address which highlighted lessons learned as she prepared to become Mayor and updated Eugeneans on the issues she prioritized in her campaign and how she plans to work on them.

Despite the weather postponement and continuing weather challenges, the event was well-attended by about 250 enthusiastic community leaders and residents.
