Starting Monday, February 13, the Knickerbocker Bridge will be closed as part of the South Bank Path Improvement Project.
The wooden bridge railings on the Knickerbocker Bridge are badly weathered and there is heavy splintering. Starting Monday, crews will begin the process of replacing the bridge rails along with the benches on the bridge. The work is expected to take four weeks, depending on the weather.
People who walk and bike on the riverbank path system will need to choose an alternate crossing of the Willamette River such as the Frohnmayer Bike Bridge (Autzen Footbridge). The North Bank and South Bank paths are open during the Knickerbocker Bridge repairs.
A major source of funding for this project comes from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
