[ARCHIVED] City Celebrates National Fair Housing Month in April

As April marks the anniversary of the passing of the Fair Housing Act, the City of Eugene joins the nation in celebrating National Fair Housing Month. This month is a designated time to celebrate the advancements of equal access to housing regardless of race, color, religion, sex, nationality, familial and military status, disability or ancestry. Enacted by Congress in 1968, the Fair Housing Act aims to eliminate housing discrimination and create equal opportunity in every community. The City will host a number of events throughout the month including:

Library Story Times with Guest Reader: Mayor Lucy Vinis
Special edition story times including readings and activities about neighborhoods, inclusivity and home.

Pajama Story Time
Tuesday, April 4 from 6:30-7:00 pm at the Downtown Eugene Public Library

Cuentos y Canciones
Saturday, April 8 from 11:15-11:45 am at the Bethel Brank of the Eugene Public Library

Know Your Rights: Fair Housing Training
Tuesday, April 25 from 6:15-7:30 pm at the Eugene Public Library: Bascom/Tykeson Rooms
Community members are invited to come and learn about fair housing rights and resources applicable to Eugene residents at this event, presented by staff from the Fair Housing Council of Oregon. Staff from Oregon Law Center, Human Rights and Neighborhood Involvement, Community Development and the City’s Rental Housing Code program will also be available to answer questions and distribute materials.

Free childcare will be available on site during the event for participants. Advanced reservations required to ensure proper staffing.
