Once plagued with illegal activity, a revitalized Charnel Mulligan Park is now abuzz with the positive sounds of visitors of all ages enjoying new park amenities. Fun new features include a bigger playground, basketball half-court, plaza, park furnishings, and sand and water play. The park’s makeover began in 2012 with a goal to address the age and condition of the park, as well as years of negative activity. Increased visibility, circulation and lighting have also improved safety.
Join Parks and Open Space and Jefferson Westside Neighbors for a grand opening celebration:
Where: Charnel Mulligan Park, 17th and Charnelton
When: Thursday, June 15
- 5 p.m. – Parade from Wayside Park (15th and Charnelton)
- 5:30 p.m. – Dedication with Mayor Vinis
- 5:45 p.m. – Live music, food and games
Activities will include live music by the One More Time Marching Band, lawn games, tree tours and more. Cornucopia is generously providing burgers, and all attendees are invited to bring a dish to share for the annual Jefferson Westside Neighbors potluck.
The project was made possible, in part, through a Community Development Block Grant from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Jefferson Westside Neighbors also raised $15,000 for the sand and water play area, and supported the project every step of the way. The neighbor’s fundraising efforts were backed by a $2,300 grant from the Eugene Association of Realtors.
