[ARCHIVED] Message from Chief Pete Kerns

People have called me with concerns after President Donald Trump remarked, “Please don’t be too nice,” in referring to treatment of suspects after an arrest.” I was disappointed as well. From the academy to retirement our officers are trained to treat people with dignity. We go to great lengths to care for everyone we encounter with compassion and respect, regardless of the crimes they may have committed. We’re proud of our high standard and wouldn’t want any leader’s comments to suggest we would neglect what we consider to be a noble duty to protect and serve every member of our community with great care.
