[ARCHIVED] Vehicle-Bicycle Crash

On October 28, 2017 around 7:46pm Eugene Police and Eugene/Springfield Fire and EMS responded to a crash between a vehicle and a bicycle on eastbound 7th Ave at Van Buren Street. Medics arrived and started to provide medical aid to the bicyclist, Charles Michael Miller, age 57, who sustained life-threatening injuries.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The involved vehicle, driven by Driver: Ryan Allen Sager, age 33, of Eugene, was a 2001 SAAB and initial information from witnesses indicated the vehicle was traveling east on 7th at Van Buren. Miller crossed at an uncontrolled intersection and was struck head on by the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Sager, was not injured. Eugene Police Major Crash Investigation Team responded and is conducting an ongoing investigation. The cause of the crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. While the investigation was underway, east bound 7th at Van Buren was down to a single lane of travel and remained this way for several hours.

Pedestrians and Bicyclist are encouraged at night to please wear brighter clothing, have proper lighting on your bike, and be caution when crossing at an uncontrolled intersection. Drivers are also cautioned to be extra vigilant at night and ensure you are watching out for bicyclist and pedestrian. Case No. 17-18287
