[ARCHIVED] Singe-vehicle crash into a house results in serious injuries, DUII arrest

On November 02, 2017 at 7:19 p.m. Eugene Police and Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a single-vehicle crash into a house. EPD officers arrived on scene to find two occupants in a 2006 black Ford F350 pickup had crashed into a home on Bertelsen Road between Elmira Road and Roosevelt Blvd. The female passenger was seriously injured and was unresponsive. Officers pulled the female passenger out of the vehicle and began to administer first aid. Medics and fire arrived and began life support measures. The female was transported to the hospital with serious injuries with trauma activation.

Our initial investigation shows alcohol and speed appear to have been a factor in the crash. Eugene Police Major Collision Investigation team responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. Occupants of the home were present during the crash but were not injured. Their home received extensive damage and Red Cross responded to the scene to assist them as they were displaced from their home. The driver also sustained minor injury and was later transported to the hospital for evaluation. The driver was later arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, and reckless endangering. The driver was identified as Travis Anthony Simonis, age 29, of Eugene. Simmons was lodged at Lane County Jail on the listed charges. The MCI team remained on scene for several hours conducting their investigation. As of November 3 at 12:15 a.m. the roadway was back open to thru traffic.

We ask if anyone was a passerby or witness this crash to contact the Eugene Police Department and talk with Officer Fritts. Officer Fritts can be reached by calling 541-682-5111 (X-1167). Case 17-18614
