[ARCHIVED] Winter Storm Review Leads to New Deicer Technology

Storage of our deicing material is paramount to being prepared when freezing weather arrives. Since the installation of our first storage tank in 2010, the volume levels have been checked manually. While manually confirming the level works in the off season and provides an estimate of the tank volume, this practice did not provide the timeliness, accuracy and safety needed for planning during an event.

After-action feedback from the 2016/17 weather events highlighted the need for electronic wireless monitoring to improve safety for our employees and to improve accuracy. Recently we added a monitoring system to the original tank and the additional tank added this year which allows us to remotely display tank levels from any

computer, including desktop or smart phone. Automation Products Group, Inc. (APG) provided the platform to track the volume, identify optimum ordering thresholds, and ascertain usage trends while improving employee safety.
