Eugene Public Library greatly appreciates the hundreds of community members who contribute year-round to support library services for all! Last year, volunteers contributed more than 14,500 hours of time, energy, and talent. Plus thousands of additional hours were contributed by volunteers for our non-profit fundraising partners the Friends of Eugene Public Library and the Eugene Public Library Foundation.
Library volunteers range from teens to seniors and help with activities behind the scenes as well as with the public. You’re invited to join the team! To learn more or to apply, click here.
Current openings at the Downtown Library include:
Storytime-To-Go
Make a difference in the lives of young children by presenting a 20-minute storytime each week. Volunteers are trained to lead an engaging storytime at a local daycare to help build children’s literacy and love of reading. Time commitment: 3 hours weekly, including travel and preparation – and the impact on the children will last a lifetime. Want to see it in action? Watch this short video.
Maker Hub Open Labs
Facilitating open labs in the Maker Hub is a fun and exciting way to volunteer, including the opportunity to learn about 3D printing and fabrication, sewing and textiles, electronics and robotics, and paper and handcrafts. Volunteers are trained for familiarity with the software and equipment, as well as how to facilitate this independent hands-on learning environment. People skills and a love of learning are important; previous experience is not required. Time commitment: 4 hours monthly.
Outreach Team
The Library is dedicated to educating our community about all the amazing services available to them through their Library. A team of staff and volunteers go out into the community to bring this information in a variety of settings through hands on activities and interacting with the public about Library services. Members of the Outreach Team help setup booths, assist patrons with activities, answer questions, and generally represent the Library to the community. Time commitment: 6 hours monthly.
Shelf Reading
Help keep books in order with this adopt-a-shelf volunteer opportunity. By making items findable, you make the Library better for everyone. Time commitment: 2 hours weekly.
