[ARCHIVED] The City of Eugene presents WASTED: The Story of Food Waste

Movie poster for WASTED! The Story of Food WasteThe City of Eugene is excited to partner with the Bijou to host a community-screening of the new food waste film, WASTED: The Story of Food Waste. This film aims to change the way people buy, cook, recycle, and eat food. Through the eyes of some of our favorite food-waste conscious chefs, such as Anthony Bourdain, Dan Barber, Massimo Bottura, and Danny Bowien, audiences will see how the world’s most influential chefs make the most of every kind of food, transforming what most people consider scraps into incredible dishes that create a more secure food system.

WASTED! exposes the criminality of food waste and how it’s directly contributing to climate change and shows us how each of us can make small changes – all of them delicious – to solve one of the greatest problems of the 21st Century.

Admission for the film will go directly back into the community to power food-justice initiatives in Eugene. Willamette Farm and Food Coalition is continually working to secure healthy, fresh, and local food for all members of our community.

The film will be shown at Bijou Art Cinemas on Thursday, April 5, at 6 p.m. Admission is a suggested $5 donation; no one will be turned away. Tickets can be purchased online or picked up in-person in advance. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The film will feature a special limited beer release from Hop Valley Brewing Company: a beer made from food that would have otherwise been wasted, like stale bread and ugly vegetables! Bread was donated by The Bread Stop Bakery and vegetables from Ambrosia Farm. Vegan desserts will be provided by Cornbread Cafe - Organic Vegan Comfort Food.
