Possession of Heroin – Case 1805750
An officer was patrolling in the area and noticed a Buick LeSabre cross over the double yellow line of Maple Street to avoid a raised speed bump in the road, then fail to signal two turns. The officer performed a traffic stop and contacted the driver, Michael Joseph Reichardt, age 27, of Eugene. Reichardt’s license was suspended and he didn’t have insurance or registration for the vehicle. The officer impounded the vehicle and cited Reichardt for driving while uninsured and failure to signal a turn. The vehicle plates ended up returning to a different vehicle. During an inventory search prior to towing, the officer found heroin, and Reichardt was also charged with possession of heroin.

Assault, Interfere with Public Transportation, Criminal Trespass 2 – Case 1805739
EPD officers were sent to a physical fight at the intersection. When they arrived, they found Geoffrey Francis Asman, age 61, of Eugene, in custody. LTD public safety officers had contacted Asman, as Asman had been permanently trespassed from all LTD property on March 26, 2018. Asman was at the main station and was told he had to leave and not return. He left, but walked to the next LTD bus stop at W. 11th Avenue and Lawrence. An LTD public safety officer again contacted him and told him to leave. Asman walked past the officer and tried to board the bus and the officer stopped him. Asman left this station and ended up flagging down and boarding another bus before the officer could stop him. The LTD officer followed in his vehicle, and had the bus stop so he could enter. He had Asman get off the bus and once off the bus, the LTD officer advised Asman he was under arrest for trespassing and interfering with public transportation. The LTD officer and a supervisor went to detain Asman and Asman fought with them alongside the road. They were able to get him on the ground, and while the LTD officer was searching Asman, Asman kicked the LTD officer in the head. The two LTD security personnel were able to hold Asman down until EPD units arrived. Asman was charged with assault, interfering with public transportation, and two counts of criminal trespass.

DUII, Reckless Endangering, Reckless Driving – Case 1805706
EPD responded to assist a Springfield Police officer with a traffic stop at the location. The Toyota Corolla had failed to maintain its lane, speeded through a construction zone on Franklin Boulevard, and stopped at a green light at Franklin Boulevard and Walnut Street in Eugene. The SPD officer initiated a stop. An EPD officer contacted the driver, Robert Marion Collins, age 45, of Springfield and suspected impairment. There was a passenger in the car as well. The EPD officer had Collins exit the vehicle and observed a handgun in the vehicle. Collins dropped his phone and reached down right next to where the gun was located to retrieve the phone, prompting the officer to grab ahold of Collins and move him toward the back of the vehicle. The SPD officer took control of Collins while the EPD officer retrieved the handgun. Upon further inspection it was a ‘BB’ gun replica that was a realistic simulation of a real gun. There was also an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. After an investigation, Collins was charged with DUII, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangering.

A driver, later identified as Ashton Robert Matthews, age 19, of Eugene, arrived at a local hospital after being involved in a crash in the 1900 block of N. Danebo Avenue, where he hit a parked vehicle and ended up on a home’s front lawn. An officer found that Matthews had been involved in a single-vehicle crash and upon contacting him at the hospital, suspected impairment. After an investigation, Matthews was charged with DUII, Reckless Driving and Minor in Possession.

Unlawful Use of Weapon
On April 10 at 12:34 p.m., Eugene Police officers responded to Hiron’s after a dispute between two men was reported. They located the 33-year-old male victim, who is Black, at E. 17th Avenue and Ferry Street. He reported that another man, Walter Henry Rodriguez, age 51, of Eugene, who is Caucasian, had come after him with a mallet, threatening to kill him and using a racial slur. The two are known to each other, as the victim is in a relationship with Rodriguez’ ex-girlfriend. The victim reported he was able to dodge the mallet, and was punched subsequently by Rodriquez. The victim declined medical attention. Rodrigues was associated with an orange Honda Fit that returned to an address on W. 23rd. There was information that the driver had been armed with a handgun, so when officers located the vehicle parked near the involved residence, to safeguard the public, they shut down traffic westbound on W. 23rd Avenue at Charnelton Street and eastbound traffic on W. 23r4d at Lincoln Street. Rodriguez was observed moving around in the car. An officer used the PA to give the man commands and he got out of the car, but was not compliant with commands, kept reaching for his clothing and grabbed a cellphone. Eventually he did get on the ground and was taken into custody at 6:23 p.m. No firearm was located. A mallet was recovered from the vehicle he had been driving. He was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Intimidation in the Second Degree and Menacing (Bias).

A police officer patrolling the area observed a blue 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling west on Marshall Avenue with expired registration and contacted the driver of the vehicle, Richard Leroy Doolittle, age 36, of Eugene, and observed him to have a stolen license plate in his possession. Following contact with Doolittle, he was arrested and transported to the Lane County Jail for Possession of Methamphetamine, Theft in the Third Degree and two warrants. He was also cited for Driving While Suspended, Driving Uninsured and Failure to Renew Vehicle Registration.

An officer observed a vehicle make a lane change with no turn signal, then fail to maintain his lane and got close to the patrol vehicle. The officer initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, David Michael Errington, age 42, of Eugene. The officer suspected Errington was impaired and conducted an investigation. Errington was charged with failure to drive in a single lane, open container, DUII, and reckless driving.

An officer saw headlights come eastbound on the westbound-only lane of travel on 6th Avenue. Several motorists had to move out of the way to avoid a collision with the wrong-way driver. The officer activated his lights to stop traffic and help prevent a collision. The involved vehicle came to a stop in front of the patrol vehicle and the officer contacted the driver, identifying him as Ronald Steven Woods, age 68, of Eugene. The officer suspected impairment and conducted an investigation. Wood was charged with Driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and fail to obey one way designator

Police responded to the area regarding a possible DUII driver in a Ford Edge who crashed into a parked car, destroying the front of his vehicle and causing significant damage to the back end of the car. The officer contacted the driver, Bart Alan Lucas, age 46, of Eugene, and was provided false information regarding vehicle insurance liability. After further investigation, police found information to arrest him for Possession Heroin, Possession of Controlled Substance, Driving While Suspended, False Information to Police, DUII, Reckless Driving. He was transported to the Lane County Jail and also cited for Driving Uninsured.

An off-duty police officer observed a Chevrolet Malibu traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Coburg Road before crashing into a traffic light pole on the raised median. Public Works responded to the location to assess the damage of the light pole and Brooks was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

A police officer patrolling the area responded to information of a male subject vandalizing a dumpster with graffiti. Police located the described suspect, Gordon Douglas Barnes, age 35, of Eugene, and also observed graffiti on a nearby stairway at an apartment. Following contact with Barnes, police found information to arrest him on two counts of Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree.

Felon In Possession Firearm/Possession Stolen Vehicle – Case 1805253
A police officer on patrol observed a stolen GMC Envoy traveling northbound on Highway 99 and followed the vehicle into an apartment complex. The officer pulled into the location and observed the driver, who was standing outside the vehicle, run westbound. The officer followed the suspect, Shane Chase Montes, age 33, of Eugene, who continued to run after being given direction to stop, and was eventually taken into custody a short distance away. Following contact with Montes, police found information to arrest him for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Felon In Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Methamphetamine, Interfering With Peace Officer and a warrant. He was transported to the Lane County Jail on the charges.
