The City is offering a new opportunity for those who are interested in joining the redevelopment momentum that continues in downtown Eugene. A Request for Proposals (RFP) for the sale of 942 Olive Street has been released and proposals for the site will be accepted through December 14th.
The City is seeking proposals that will provide distinctive, creative, and active uses for the property. The property at 942 Olive Street is owned by the City’s Urban Renewal Agency and the sale will be reviewed and approved by the Eugene City Council, acting as the Agency Board. The proposal should support the City Council’s goals of increasing downtown development and investing in arts and culture as an economic engine. Buyers with a proven track record of establishing creative and distinctive uses for buildings in urban, downtown settings are encouraged to submit proposals.
The City’s Urban Renewal Agency bought the property, along with the parking lot to its south, from Diamond Parking in January 2009. The parking lot is part of the Lane Community College (LCC) Downtown Campus project, which is expected to be complete in December. With LCC nearing completion, the timing is right to seek proposals for the sale and redevelopment of 942 Olive Street.
The redevelopment of 942 Olive Street will compliment recent public and private investments in the area that total over $100 million, including:
• The restoration of the Broadway Commerce Center and the arrival of several new businesses to the building including The Barn Light and Sizzle Pie;
• The Woolworth Building with ground floor retail space, upper floors of office space, and embedded parking;
• LCC’s downtown campus and student housing;
• The renovation of First on Broadway on Broadway and Willamette that will include the Bijou Metro movie theater and the First National Tap House pub; and
• The opening of several new downtown restaurants including Belly, Noisette Pastry Kitchen, and Off the Waffle.
