[ARCHIVED] Dog found with stab wounds being treated

PupwithAWO (003)

On April 12 at 2:18 p.m., a local business owner saw a dog standing at the Welcome Inn, 1410 W. 6th Avenue, the dog trotted across the street to him. A vehicle driving by stopped and the driver grabbed ahold of the dog’s leash and that’s when they saw the dog was actively bleeding from its side. They speculated the dog, a grey female Pitbull, had been hit by a car. When it started to hail the business owner took the dog to his business and called Central Lane 911’s non-emergency line. EPD Animal Welfare Officer Shawni McLaughlin responded and found the dog was wearing a license. From that, she found the dog’s name was Daisy, however the owner’s number was out of service.

AWO McLaughlin took Daisy to the Emergency Vet Hospital, where they discovered Daisy’s wounds were from being stabbed. Since then, Daisy has been recovering at First Avenue Animal Shelter. The owner signed Daisy over to the City because he could not afford to give her the care that she will need. It is unknown who stabbed Daisy at this time and anyone with information on this case is asked to call Animal Welfare Officer McLaughlin’s desk line at 541-682-6234 and reference Case 1805867.

Daisy is a sweet dog and quickly won over our AWO’s heart. We would like to make sure that someone special adopts Daisy when she becomes available.

Interested prospective owners are advised not to call First Animal Shelter, but keep an eye on the their website for more details. Daisy will have another medical check-up today, and then the shelter may have a better idea for a timeline of when Daisy will become available.
